The Crucible Resources
Here are some resources to help you understand Arthur Miller's play, The Crucible. You will also find course materials, read-a-likes, and historical information related to the text.
The Crucible
Arthur Miller's The Crucible is a play based on the Salem witch trials of 1692, although the New York Times review described it as powerful and relevant to the day. The play reflects the author’s feelings about the unsubstantiated accusations of the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) (1938–1975), which was investigating people connected to the Communist Party and demanding that they name others who might be involved. The investigations often have been compared to a witch hunt. [1]
