Published in 1960, To Kill a Mockingbird is a novel written by American author Harper Lee (1926–2016) that tells the story of a girl growing up in Alabama and the events she witnesses that introduce her to racism at a young age. Garnering her instant praise, Lee’s work was a national bestseller for many weeks and was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 1961. It has since become one of the most widely read novels in schools across the United States. [1]
