1984 by George Orwell

George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four is set in Oceania, a totalitarian state controlled by a mysterious Inner Party that exacts blind devotion to itself and to its leader, Big Brother. Winston Smith is a writer for a Party controlled newspaper. His dissident activities make him privy to torture and brainwashing when the Party discovers his subversive views.
